Kyiv, 16 May 2016 – UNDP experts presented a new e-asset declaration system to over 150 prosecutors from all regions of Ukraine in a series of workshops at Prosecution Academy.
The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) member Ruslan Radetzky shed light on NACP plans to launch the e-asset declaration system. UNDP experts of the Public Sector Transparency and Integrity Project Ivan Presniakov and Sofiya Kovach presented a mechanism of e-declaration submission.
"Society strongly demands transparency of public prosecutors' work and assets. As for prosecutors themselves, we noticed their interest in information on the new asset declaration system. It was quite interesting to hear their professional opinions and questions about the system – they can reasonably help us improve the e-asset declaration system later on," commented Ruslan Radetzky.
The prosecutors, inter alia, were interested whether they should be worried about declared money and assets in the context of where they came from and whether prosecutors can be liable for this.
Answering the question, Ivan Presniakov stated that no one should be worried about being liable for the property that was obtained prior to the new declaration system launch. In fact, he said this year's declaration is so called "zero declaration" that does not provide for the responsibility for the past deeds, giving a chance to public officials to gain integrity starting this year.
The presentation of the new e-asset declaration system by UNDP and NACP representatives was held within a series of workshops, organized by the Office of Prosecutor General and National Prosecutors Academy.
This initiative is supported by the Enhanced Public Sector Transparency and Integrity Project in Ukraine, implemented by UNDP and funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
