Youth from ULA Kyiv brainstormed progress towards SDGs in their local communities & learnt about volunteering

'Be the change that you wish to see in the world’, called for by Mahatma Gandhi. And it is active youth that is responsible for making positive changes real in their communities.

Young people from Ukrainian Leadership Academy in Kyiv brainstormed how to solve problems in local communities to make a progress towards reaching 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

We encouraged youngsters to search for innovative solutions at local level, and engage into policy-and decision making. According to the UNDP civic literacy survey, 37% of Ukrainians are not engaged into civic initiatives, 69% believe that they do not have opportunities to influence country’s development, and only 13% are actively volunteering.

Young leaders also learnt about volunteering opportunities with the United Nations in Ukraine and abroad.

The Ukrainian Leadership Academy (ULA) is 10-month program for secondary school graduates, aiming at  forming a generation of young people, ready to influence positive changes in our society.
