Youth Workers Mastered Critical Thinking and Media Literacy

Why does critical thinking help young people to engage consciously in democratic transformations? How can one recognize fake news and manipulation in the media?

Youth workers from all over Ukraine obtained critical thinking skills and increased media literacy at the training session, held this week in L’viv.

Vitaliy Haiseniuk, participant of the training, shared his impressions: "Critical thinking is a cross-cutting concept for civic education, since it pushes citizens to be active starting from the school years. I liked that our coach Yaryna Boren’ko gave us many practical tasks. For the first time, I took part in the debates by "legs" and "on the paper". Also, it is important that we discussed the language of hatred and discrimination in the media".

Critical thinking allows us to notice false information, manipulation and facts distortion. Therefore, mastering critical thinking and media literacy is extremely important for young people in today's environment.

The module "Critical Thinking and Media Literacy" will become part of the specialized course of the "Youth Worker" program from 2018 onwards.
