Who will choose the members of the National Agency for Prevention of Corruption?

Kyiv, 28 August 2015 – The meeting on the re-election of CSO candidates for members of the selection panel of the National Agency for Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) was held by the Ministry of Justice.

 
m-bZcQtoIamThe focal point for assisting the civic nomination procedure – the First Deputy Minister of Justice Natalia Sevostyanova – informed the participants that the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine received about 50 packages of documents from civil society organisations (CSOs). Out of these, the Ministry along with the reforms task team selected 24 CSOs, submitted documents of which meet the requirements of the Regulations on the competition.
 
The representatives of UNDP, Council of Europe, and the EU Delegation to Ukraine were observers during the meeting.
 
Out of 24 invited CSOs, 23 participated in the elections and 19 civic associations nominated their candidates. All representatives of CSOs had the opportunity to read the candidates' biographies and hear their public presentations. As a result of voting, assisted by a secretary elected by the participants to ensure the transparency and openness of the process, Ms. Sevostyanova announced the marks in all voting ballots. Following a vote, the selection panel on election of members of the National Agency on Prevention of Corruption now includes:

Ministry of Justice expects that the composition of the NAPC selection panel will be approved at the next Cabinet's meeting. The first meeting of the selection panel is planned immediately afterward.
 
Elections of civic representatives to the NAPC selection panel were supported by the UNDP project "Democratization, human rights and civil society development in Ukraine."
