Discussing progress of anti-corruption reform in Ukraine with Jose Ugaz from Transparency International

Kyiv, 8 June 2016 – UNDP team that is facilitating the launch of the National Agency for Corruption Prevention hosted a meeting with Jose Ugaz, chair of the board of Transparency International, and Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, newly appointed executive director of Transparency International Ukraine.


27556791335 a72552b222 oAt the meeting, they discussed the development of Ukrainian anti-corruption institutions as well as how inevitable frustrations and problems arising along the way should be dealt with. The parties expressed their common opinion regarding the necessity of public attention towards newly established anti-corruption institutions, in particular the necessity of NACP public council establishment.

"We welcome the appointment of Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, Executive Director of TI Ukraine, as a new member of the NACP Staff Selection Committee," noted UNDP expert Sofiia Kovach.

27484576181 8e26772e5d oJose Ugaz also shed light on general changes in the international TI movement, which is becoming more focused on public activists' investigation of corruption cases. The participants discussed the institutional audit carried out for TI Ukraine by UNDP and pointed out that Ukraine needs strong TI Ukraine.

In addition, during the meeting the parties talked about the International Anti-Corruption Conference that is annually organised by TI. This year, the Conference is held in Panama, where UNDP is going to run a workshop on e-asset declaration verification.
